ORT February

My ORT report. I got a new jar for my thread. And I am a few days late. The New Moon was February 21. The last few days have been really stressful, I am lucky that I am not in a little white jacket with my arms wrapped behind my back sitting in a padded room.

TUSAL ~ DuffyCat's blog is here if you'd like to join. I like to go and see all the other stitching blogs that are participating. Just to see what everyone else is stitching.

ORT= old ratty threads
TUSAL= totally useless stitch a long

Hand Embroidered Spider Webs

My Halloween / Spider Web quilt is finished. I am so happy with it. And I really can't believe it is done.

After finishing the quilt top with orange stash, black and off white. I hand embroidered spider webs and little spiders on it. I like spiders. ( any bug really). But spiders say "Halloween".

My quilt top has been setting around waiting to be quilted since last September. I wanted it to be done by Halloween last year. Well, that didn't happen. With school and the itch to just stitch by hand I figured I better have some one quilt it for me or it would never get done.

I sent it off to Rebekah Richardson to have it quilted the easiest and cheapest way.

For the black fabric, I picked one with circles so it looked like bubbles coming out of a witches cauldron pot.

My label, not finished yet, but it is there.

I will be ready for Halloween 2012. :o) One more quilt from my UFO's done! I am so happy!

Hematology and Family

I've been studying this... really only the left row right now (above).

This.....and this....

I have a huge test tomorrow. Not much stitching going on.

But during Downton Abbey the other night (2 hours) I did get some stitching done. In other news, AKA~ the family.... My little guy has signed up for the 'Science Fair'. I am so proud of him. His topic is Fossils, rocks and minerals. He has a little collection of them. Here he is researching fossils for his project.

(Sorry for the awful, horrible, evil desk photo, it is the hub's desk and he works with metal/oil/ grease/etc.... I don't go near this desk unless I need to print something)

My little guy was also in the Pinewood Derby Race this weekend. Here is a photo of his car. It is actually a VW 'Double Cab'. That's my boy. His Derby car last year was 'Herbie' the VW beetle.

And here is my baby girl. ( She is taller then me,LOL) She is on a new robotics team and loving it!! Sparky Team 384!

A Pirate and a Bird

The stitching on my pirate is finished. Pattern from Sue Hillis Designs, Post Stitches. The pattern is called "Pirates Love Christmas"..... of course. I'm not sure if I am going to frame it or boarder it with fabric and make it a little wall hanging. It is a Christmas (2012) gift for our neighbors who do so much for us. The wife loves pirates and has the whole living room decorated in them.

Here is the new pattern I've started. The one where I've been showing the floss in my posts but not the pattern. We have a friend who is getting married in September. One of those friends who your child calls them Uncle even though they aren't and they are the 'emergency pickup person' on your children's school list. Well, he moved to Missouri to be with his girlfriend last year and now they are getting married! I am so happy for him! He is one of those great guys that deserves the best.

And the reason I'm not making him a quilt is because someone in his family has already set out to make them a "double wedding ring" quilt. He has a quilter in his family.

So here is the start. I love the little birds. The only problem with this pattern is.....it is so cute I might want to just put my husband and I's name on it and hang it on my wall. :o)

I Am Missing Christmas.

PrOgress on my Pirates Love Christmas. And a new pattern I bought from 'The Sampler Girl'. She had an awesome Super-Bowl sale going on. The pattern is called "George Lassos the Moon". I am a huge fan of Christmas time and the movie "It's a Wonderful Life".

I can't wait to start this pattern, but it will have to be awhile..... there are others that need to come first.

Floss Organized!

Ok, it's all done. I started organizing my crazy bags of floss a few weeks ago or more. And I'm done. They aren't pretty, but they are organized.

Box one starts at # 209 and box three ends with #3827..... with some blanks at the end. You know the floss where the number tag has fallen off and you have no clue what # it is. :o)

I had lots of duplicates and triplicates, I got rid of a lot, but some colors that I love (like brown) I just couldn't part with even if I had three.

These eleven aren't in the boxes because they are for my next project.... which I'll reveal on a later post. Ohhhh the suspense. :o)

Here is the 'get rid of' bag. What was left over, all the doubles, triples, and unwanted floss. The floss I just didn't care for because of the color so I wasn't going to waste my time wrapping them. This bag will be going to the Goodwill soon.

I also bought a basket this week (40% off , always love that) for organizing the whole bunch of stitching things that sit on my hope-chest in our bedroom. Now it isn't two piles of patterns, books, fabrics, floss boxes, etc. It's all in this one basket nice and neat!

Color Me Mine ( photo heavy)

About once a year or once every two years we go paint pottery. My son and I went this time over Holiday break. I didn't take my daughter because the plan was for me to make her a birthday gift. ( Her birthday was this January) The place we do this at is called "Color Me Mine". There are all kinds of things to paint, my son picked out a lizard / gecko this time.

He has a real gecko at home named "Geico", so he wanted to be able to hang this up on his wall.

Here is painted Geico drying. :o) I ended up make a Christmas ornament for our tree. This isn't the first time I've done this. And a light switch plate for my daughter's room.

On one side I put our names and the year, on the other side I put "Let's camp" with our bus.

I brought with me a game cover so I could copy Wall-E on the light switch cover. Here he and Eve are in progress

I even added the tiny cockroach in the bottom right hand corner. If you've seen this movie you know about the cute cockroach. So when you are done painting your masterpiece, you leave it there so they can bake it in the kiln. You have to wait a whole week to get your masterpiece back. The waiting kills me. lol

The end results..... here is my sons gecko hanging on his wall....next to his skull/bone collection. He has 4 shelves full of skulls and bones by the way.

Wall-E , Eve and the cockroach turned out pretty cute and my daughter loves them. They are now on her wall!

And my Christmas ornament! I love how it turned out. The tree and snowman (back) ornament are from years pasted. The tree ornament in 2001 was our first year married and our first Christmas together. LOVE!

And here are the fronts of the ornaments. They are all packed away now waiting for next season to come. They are some of my favorite ornaments we own! I sort of wish I had made one every year. Maybe I'll start. :o)
