WIP Wednesday

Remember the teacher's gift I was working on?     I finished it!  :o)    My son drew the picture on a piece of paper, then I traced it on a white piece of fabric using a light box.  He told me what colors to stitching it all in.  I tried to tell him that earth worms do not live in apples and I should stitch the worm green so he could be an inch worm.  He wanted no part in that.  He said he wanted the worm pink.  So we have a pink earth worm living in an apple. :o)   He also said that the red crayon was a number 1 because she is a number 1 teacher. 

I didn't think to take a cute picture of the pillow.  This morning my son was leaving for school and taking the teacher's gift with him.  So I grabbed a quick (not so good) photo.   PS. Mrs. Goodman's (the teacher) favorite color is blue.

Here is progress on block #5 of HocusPocusVille.  I've had lots of time to stitch in doctor office waiting rooms, gymnastic waiting rooms and tutoring waiting rooms.  So I get a good 3 hours of stitching time in a week while waiting for children.

I would read and study for my Immunology class, but it is usually too loud with people coming in and out all the time.  I need complete quite with I'm reading.   Here is a glimpse of what I am learning.... doesn't that look like a 3 year old drew it, at the bottom??

And look at the  'Quilt a Long' I found over at 'Cut to Pieces'.  A Super Mario Brothers QAL.   I may  just join in, we'll see after she posts the supply list.  With crazy things going on , like school, I may not have time.  But both of my kiddies are into games, so I bet one of them would love this quilt.

And progress on the 'end of the year' teacher gift...... it will be a pillow by popular demand. (my son's drawing, stitched up by me)

The Hoo-Rah

We went camping this Memorial Day weekend.  We went to the Hoo-Rah which is a family campout that has been happening for 34 years now. 

We took the Basil (our Chihuahua) this time.  He was pooped out by the time we got home. Pictured below is my daughter and I with Basil.

We got to do some canoeing. I love being on the river!!  Give me the river over the beach any day.

And I did some stitching on the trip too.  My son drew this picture for his teacher. I'm stitching it up to give her as an end of the year gift.  I will be sure to post pictures when I am finished.  It may turn into a pillow.

I started a new quilt today (Monday).  These are not my colors and I am finding them hard to work with, but my cousin is getting married the end of June and they are her colors.  It will be a signature quilt for the wedding.  I got the pattern from Jaybird Quilt's blog, a free tutorial.  More of this project to come later also.

Camper From France

My friend Jennifer went to an embroidery school in France this last February.  She brought me back the cutest camper key chain kit.

I have the sweetest friends!!   I have been stitching on it a tiny bit in between other things I've stitching. I like to go back and forth on things I'm working on.

But today, I finely finished my sweet camper.  I ended up changing the colors to more of my style.  For the back of the key chain I used some of my favorite fabric also from France. :o)   My friend Chesley went over seas a few years ago and brought me back this super cute tent fabric.  My friends know I LOVE camping. lol

So here she is on my key chain, so sweet and cute.  Thank you so much for thinking of me Jennifer while you were away on your adventure!!

Too Much Information! LOL

Warning~ Don't read any farther if you get weirded out easy.   You are easily shocked or horrified about how some hippies live. And probably if you are a male. This is most likely TMI for you.  LOL. But it is part of my sewing life so I'm going to share.

I haven't bought a pad or tampon for myself in over 7 years. Yes, I make my own reusable pads. Why? you ask.  I was part of a breast feeding , cloth diapering , co~sleeping mommy group when my son was 2 years old. Yes, I breast fed my son till he was one.  And he was cloth diapered and slept with me 3/4 of the time.  All the other mommies talked about wearing 'mommy pads' and one day they got together to make some. I love to sew, so I went. Really to sew and hang out with the girls.  I ended up make 3 pads that day.  I took them home, tried them out and have never gone back to disposable.

They are so much more comfortable and save me money. :o)  And it is really for those two reasons!!! It takes me a good 3-4 hours to make 4 or 5 of them, they are super easy to make.  I laid out in the sun today while cutting them all out. Then came in, popped in "You Got Mail" and watched it while stitching them up.

And here are the ones I made today. (no snaps yet). I use metal snaps, but am thinking of getting some plastic snaps this time. I just need to find a good place to get them from.  These pads last me about 3 years. So I don't need to make them very often. I usually make a batch once a year.   Well, there you have it....my crazy hippie secret is out. LOL.  I hope you don't judge me.

BOM, Button and Jaws

Here is prOgress on my 'Little House Needleworks' BOM~2010. I'm not sure what to call it really. I need to think of a cute name.

I've finished the outside boarder for January, February, March, April (finished completely), and July.  I don't own May and June yet so I've been working on boarders for the months I have.  The July one is very hard to see in this photo.

Today I found out that my machine has a button stitch. A real button stitch. I knew it had a button hole stitch, I've used it many many times.  But I was looking through the manual today and came across the section to sew on buttons.  I hate to sew on buttons.  I've had a pair of my son's short lying around for awhile that need a button sewn on.  Well, I was so excited, I grab them up and sewed that button on in like 5 seconds.  It was crazy easy and fast!!   Who knew?!

Last night I came home and these two things were sitting on our front porch! ( see below)  My husband who restores old VW's helped a couple find their new to them VW bus last Summer. They were so excited. She made me this pillow(on the left) and painted this picture(right) of our bus, Jaws.  It looks exactly like Jaws. She is so talented. And I am so shocked that she took the time to make us these so special gifts. 

Well, I'm off to stitch. I still have a week until Summer school starts.  Happy stitching~Amy
